What are 'Articles' and 'Pages'? What is the difference between them?

'Articles' and 'Pages' are same with same options. You can choose your content to be published as an article or page by selecting the radiobutton under 'Content type'.

1. 'Articles' are counted for the category while 'Pages' are not.

2. You can not create 'Articles' under root directory while the 'Pages' can be created.

3. 'Pages' can be used to create vertical and top horizontal menus while 'Articles' are not.

Options to create an 'Article' or 'Page':

Title:

Title of the page. Make sure it has one relevant keyword. Search engines give lot of importance to the title. Don't go with long titles as all of it won't be displaced in search engine results. Only first 65 characters. A sensible line of text that tells the searcher what your page is about is good.

Choose category or subcategory:

Select the category you want to display the content. As mentioned above, 'Pages' are only created in root directory.

Choose section (if any):

If the category you have chosen has sections under it, they will be displayed here. Select a section if you want to group the article.

URL tag:

Only letters and numbers. No special characters are allowed. Spaces are replaced by the hyphen. Again long urls with keyword stuffing are NOT adviced.

Description:

Description will go into 'description' metatag of the page header. So brief description of that page can be entered.

Weight:

This the order the article can be displayed in the category listings. Ex: page with '0' will display on top and page with '1' display below in article listings. If TWO articles have SAME weight, the latest will be displayed on top.

Keywords:

Keywords goes into 'keywords' metatag of the page. They also be displayed in article details on the page.

Summary:

Summary is the small text description displayed under title of the article on category pages.

Content type:

Either 'Article' or 'Page'. If you select the 'Page' option, a textbox will open up for you to enter a text phrase. From this text phrase which acts like anchor text, the page will be linked from your menus.

Private article?:

If you want the people to access this page only after login, then select this option. Tip: If you want to make whole directory private use the option 'Categories > private category'.

Drip feed article/page?:

Once you select this option, this article will be displayed at 'Site settings > drip feed settings' link. There you can select the date to autopublish it.

Add postnote field?:

This is the author resourcebox to add at the end of the article.

Attachments:

You have two options.

* url of the file: Upload the file to your website. Upload it to anywhere which ever is convenient for you.  Enter that full url here in first textbox. Ex: http://www.site.com/files/somefile.zip

* Enter a text in second textbox. This acts as an anchor text that hyperlinked to the attachment download.

You can click on '+' mark and add more attachments. All these attachments will be displayed on the page under 'Attachments' in right navigational column.

Article specific features:

All these are options to display the relevant  information in right column on pages/articles. You can use the site-wide default setting (which you can see under 'Site settings > configure site'). The options here are article details, comments, print article, attachments and refer to friend. You can turn off these on individual page basis.

Article text:

You copy and paste from your notepad or use 'html' icon to type html there. This is TinyMCE editor. So you can refer the userguide at TinyMCE editor website.

Under this option, you will see a dropdown box with categories listed. If you select any of them, the articles under that category will be displayed there. You can change weights of the articles in a simple way.
