Yahoo checks the incoming email headers whether it is legit or not and if it thinks the email is spam, it pushes that email to bulk folder. But not everything is perfect in this world ... So sometimes (or most of the times) the legit email lands into the bulk folder.
What are domainkeys?
DomainKeys is an email authentication method designed to verify the DNS domain from which the email is coming from.
Read how to enable domainkeys in cpanel.
Here are few pointers to show Yahoo that your email is legit:
* Clear IP
* SPF
* rDNS
* Domainkeys
* DKIM (new updated version of Domainkeys)
When you open your Yahoo email and scroll down the page, you will see a link 'Full Headers' on right side. Click on it. You will see the full header details.
One of the headers is 'X-YahooFilteredBulk'. It looks like:
X-YahooFilteredBulk : 11.22.333.44
It means Yahoo recognised the ip 11.22.333.44 as sending spam and blacklisted it. Even you install the Domainkeys, rDNS etc, still Yahoo pushes your email to bulk folder if it recognises the ip is blacklisted.
Reasons for this blackiliting can be:
* Previous webmaster who used that ip spammed and ip was blacklisted
* The ip is reported as sending spam by one of your subscribers
How to avoid email going into Yahoo bulk folder?
Let Yahoo know that you are not a spammer:
When you see that your ip is listed at 'X-YahooFilteredBulk' header, you can request Yahoo to remove your ip from their blacklisted database.
If your server sends bulk email, use this form:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/postmaster/bulkv2.html
If you are having trouble with email delivery to Yahoo, use this form:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/postmaster/defer.html
Enter all the information and hope for the best. Usually they respond and try to solve it. Because I did this one time. They do respond ... So be patience.
Change the IP address:
Some people are skeptical about Yahoo responding to your form submissions. So if you are one of them, go ahead and change the mail server ip which Yahoo blacklisted to a clear IP.
