What do you mean by click tracking?
What is click tracking?
When you put your mouse cursor on a link, the arrow will be changed to a hand. Then you will click on it to go to the desination page. When you track this click – like who clicked the link, time and day of the click, on which page the link was located etc is called ‘click tracking’.
The script or software that tracks these clicks and records this information in a database is called ‘click tracking script’.

Why you need to track the clicks?
Track profits:
Say you are running an advertising campaign worth $500.00. You set up few banners on the target site. You should know how much profits you will be getting from that advertising campaign.
Track efficiency:
Say you set up four banners and you want to know which banner is sending more visitors to your site, then this click tracking script is very useful to you.
Track source:
If you have set up similar campaign on multiple sites and you want to know which site is sending more traffic to you, then you can check the referer of the clicks.
Track keywords:
Some webmasters set up pay per click campaigns seperately for each of their keywords. In that case, you can track which keyword bringing you the traffic.
Track days:
Which days or which time of the day are attracting more visitors to your site can be known from your tracking script. This way you can show ads to cover mostly that period of time and disable the ad for the remaining time of the day.
